Swim Carnival

On November 22 the school did its 1st swim carnival (similar to a track & field day but with swimming). Every year the primary school does 2 weeks of swim lessons at the nearby pool (5-10 min walk)- this year they concluded the 2 week swim class with a swim carnival! B/c many kids within the same grade are at different swim levels they divide students into heats according to swim ability. Both Kaiya and Emiko swam in the strongest swimmer heats...it's nice to see their expensive swim lessons pay off! It was a fun day and great to see all of the kids out there swimming...definitely wish they did something like this in the states.

Emiko placed 3rd in freestyle and 4th in breaststroke (ahem...there were only 4 girls in her breaststroke heat...but she still got a ribbon!)
Kaiya competed in all 4 strokes. She is the 2nd strongest girl swimmer in her class. (The other girl is on a city league swim team and plays water polo- she's a wicked good swimmer!) Kaiya ended up competing against boys too b/c there weren't many skilled enough in breaststroke and butterfly that wanted to compete. I think she ended up placing 3 times- 2nd place twice and 1 4th place.
Proud of these girls for doing a great job! Mina is already looking forward to next year when she'll be old enough to participate!
