Phew, too many pics to put into one post...so on to another post! This is a photo of Brian with the cave dwellings (homes) that people used to live in.
Another group photo
Even the bathrooms were cool to explore.
The Royal Tombs
We walked to the top so we could check out the entrance of the tombs.
This is the old Byzantine Church. From far away it looks like a covered pavillion. But the cover is to protect/preserve the mosaic floors...seen in the next photo.
We rode donkeys 850 steps up to the monastery.
I thought the treasury was impressive...but the monastery makes the treasury seem dinky. The monastery is massive. That's me at the bottom of the photo just underneath the entrance.
We saw this sign...naturally we had to check it out.
Here's the view- best view in Petra? The sign doesn't lie!
At linner (we missed lunch but since we were starving we didn't want to wait for dinner...thus linner) the stray cats kept getting closer and closer to Jared. We called him the cat whisperer.
According to local tradition, this is the rock that Moses struck with his staff to spring forth water.
After linner, our guide took us to a Jordanian bakery to sample knafeh- a sweet, cheese pastry that is loaded with calories but oh, so delicious. We got a whole plate full.
After going, going, going since 7:00 am we crashed at the hotel. I think we were asleep by 7:30-8:00 pm-ish. That's the earliest I've gone to bed in years. It was a good night's sleep.
